Biography

Though she usually describes herself as a jazz singer, Kjerstin ‘Kj’ Easton has a broad vocal and stylistic range. Her repertoire spans a spectrum from jazz, standards, swing, and showtunes to the great choral masterworks. Kj performs with several jazz combos, and has appeared as a soloist with a wide variety of combos, big bands, wind ensembles, and choral groups.  She is featured on several of the Caltech Jazz Bands’ studio recordings, and has traveled the world as a solo vocalist, singing standards everywhere from Carnegie Hall, to Burning Man, to China’s Great Wall, to Walt Disney Concert Hall.

In between gigs, Kj pursued robotics research, receiving her B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. from the California Institute of Technology, which earned her the nickname “Dr. Diva.” For a long time, she put those degrees to use directing the intelligent robotics efforts at Applied Minds in Glendale, California. Now she’s in the Bay Area and game for new musical mischief.
